The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Office of the Australian Consulate-General Shanghai is seeking applicants to fill the following locally engaged position:

Reception and Passports Assistant (LE3)
The above position is open to Chinese and Australian nationals.
Australian nationals must be able to obtain Chinese work visa and residence permit to be able to enter and remain in China to work for the Consulate. The Australian Consulate General Shanghai does not provide relocation assistance and any costs associated with taking up the position would be the responsibility of the successful candidate.
The successful applicant will be offered an initial fixed term contract of 6 months with the possibility for extension and are subject to a probationary period.
The annual basic salary for LE3 position is CNY 124,699.2 plus the employer’s social security contributions. Where the successful candidate is an Australian national, he/she will receive an allowance in lieu of the employer’s social security contributions. Superannuation contribution will be deducted from the allowance for an Australian tax resident.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
The Reception and Passports Assistant will provide a range of consular and passport services and advice to Australian citizens living and travelling in East China in accordance with the consular charter and Australian governmental guidelines.
The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist and undertake the provision of consular, passport and notarial services to Australian citizens in accordance with the Australian Passports Act and departmental guidelines .
- Manage simple consular enquiries and provide on the ground assistance to consular clients.
- Provide timely advice and reporting on consular and passport cases, including the drafting of correspondence.
- Maintain consular and passport statistics.
- Represent and promote the interests of Australians at a range of forums, events and meetings and provide advice on Australian consular, passport and notarial services
- Operate consular and passports related databases and filing systems.
- Prepare and maintain English language consular records, the Consulate’s consular knowledge database and the Crisis Action Plan.
- Provide reception services (phone, fax, email etc), including responding to queries from the public.
- Contact applicants/relatives for clarification on passport applications
- Perform other duties as directed.
